What is ALEKS Chemistry?
ALEKS Chemistry is an initial assessment and an adaptive online learning environment tailored to prepare students for CH301. Many students have not taken Chemistry since tenth grade. These materials help the student review, refresh and in some cases, learn for the first time, material that they are expected to know on Day 1 of their CH301 course. Many students do not achieve the 85% on their initial assessment; rather they earn this score by diligently working through the learning mode.
Why has your student been asked to take ALEKS Chemistry?
The ALEKS Chemistry assessment is required for all students who enroll in CH301. The ALEKS Chemistry Assessment is used to help students prepare for the rigor of CH 301 at the University of Texas at Austin. Additional review materials in Quest will help all students with the foundations of chemistry.
What can I do to help my student with ALEKS Chemistry?
We ask that you please don’t help your student with content directly during the ALEKS Chemistry Assessment. If you are comfortable in your abilities, feel free to assist your student when they are using ALEKS Learning mode or the Quest learning modules, but please allow independent work through the assessment.
How much does this cost?
The Chemistry Assessment package costs $40 and includes the ALEKS assessment, ALEKS learning modules, the Quest Warm Up and review materials in Quest. Alternatively, if you feel confident that you will not need the extra help of the Quest learning modules, you can purchase the Assessment package and ALEKS learning modules for $25.

Who can I talk to about my child’s ALEKS Chemistry scores?
Due to federal regulations, we are unable to directly discuss scores and grades with anyone but the student. If you wish to know about your child’s progress, the information must come from your student.
What if my child has AP/IB, etc. credit?
If your child is claiming credit for CH301 then s/he is not required to take ALEKS Chemistry. However, all students who enroll in CH301 at UT must take ALEKS Chemistry, regardless of whether they have AP/IB credit. This is for the student's benefit as it will allow him/her to see whether there are any areas s/he might want to consider reviewing before the semester begins.
