The Broader Impacts (BI) section of NSF proposals addresses how your research will benefit society and contribute to the achievement of specific, desired societal outcomes. The six-step guide below helps you draft an impactful BI plan for your proposal, based on resources and strengths unique to the College of Natural Sciences (CNS) and your research group.

The Strategic Research Initiatives team, in partnership with CNS' Office of Public Engagement, Office of STEM Education Excellence, Office of Institutional Research and Analytics, campus community engagement programs, CNS communications and faculty, have contributed to this resource.
