The School of Human Ecology offers two honors program options for highly motivated students:
Honors in Advanced Human Development and Family Sciences
The Department of Human Development and Family Sciences is an interdisciplinary department focused on how children develop, how families form and function, and how individuals and their family relationships change across the life span. Honors in Advanced Human Development and Family Sciences (HAHDFS) is an accelerated program that is comprised of talented undergraduates interested in these issues.
Benefits of the program:
- Small sections (up to 20 students) of intro level courses.
- Priority registration in Human Ecology coursework.
- Early research experience in a research lab of their choice.
- Extra support to help ensure success at UT – dedicated faculty advisor, honors program coordinator, and highly trained academic advisors.
Why HDFS?
Students choose the program because they are interested in:

- socioemotional development of children
- dysfunctional processes within families
- adult marital and family relationships

Honors in Advanced Nutritional Sciences
Honors in Advanced Nutritional Sciences (HANS) affords talented, ambitious, and highly motivated students the opportunity to perform cutting edge research to optimize human health and disease prevention. HANS students have the opportunity to participate in active exchanges with faculty and experts in the field. The community of HANS scholars will form bonds with one another and with their professors that will last a lifetime. Students in HANS will take challenging classes in small special honors sections of introductory nutritional sciences courses taught by our distinguished faculty.
