THE FRI TimeLine
Students in FRI can receive course credit for each semester that they do research with the program. Once placed in a Research Stream, students earn credit that varies based on the stream discipline. For course credit options for each stream, see Spring Research Courses and Fall Research Courses.
FRESHMAN YEAR
FALL
Students are enrolled in an introductory course that provides a general overview of research and the scientific method with their CNS Learning Community. During this semester, students will learn more about their FRI Research Stream options during Stream Sort. Students are placed in a stream by the end of fall, and can register for the spring semester course.
SPRING
Students are enrolled in a lower division laboratory course associated with their Research Stream, and begin their coursework and research with their stream.
SUMMER
SOPHOMORE YEAR & BEYOND
SOPHOMORE YEAR & BEYOND
FALL
Students can choose to continue with their research stream and earn upper division course credit.
SPRING
There are many options for students after they have completed the two semester sequence! They can choose to continue research with their stream, become a peer mentor, join another faculty laboratory, and/or engage in other research activities around campus.
