About
Faculty Development Leave (FDL)
The Faculty Development Leave (FDL) program provides tenured faculty members with paid leave from teaching and service responsibilities. This program allows faculty members to dedicate their time to research, scholarship, and creative endeavors.
The duration of an FDL may either be:
- Full-time for one semester in either the fall or spring long semesters, or
- Half-time during each long semester during the nine-month long session
Information on eligibility, application materials, application review, and post-FDL return requirements can be found on the Provost's website for Faculty Development Leave and in the University’s FDL Guidelines.
Faculty Development Awards (FDA)
The Faculty Development Award (FDA) program is for mid-career and senior professional-track faculty members. The award provides up to $10,000 to support professional development opportunities and activities for each awardee.
Information on eligibility, application materials, application review, and allowable expenses for FDAs can be found on the Provost's website for Faculty Development Awards and in the University’s FDA Guidelines.
Process to Apply
Applying for FDL and FDA
The Provost Office will notify faculty when the Graduate School Awards System portal is open for faculty to submit their FDL and FDA applications. Once the award portal closes, the CNS FDL and FDA review committees will review all applications according to the CNS FDL and FDA Guidelines and make recommendations for recipients to the Dean. The Dean will ultimately decide on and submit the college's list of proposed recipients to the Provost's Office for final review and approval.
