The Pre-Health Professions Certificate provides an opportunity for College of Natural Sciences (CNS) majors to augment their science experience with complementary health-related courses while earning a transcripted certificate.

Click here to download the complete certificate checklist for science majors.

There is no application process for CNS majors to begin the certificate. Upon completion of the certificate requirements, CNS majors will simply apply to have the Pre-Health Professions Certificate transcripted (graduating this semester? See application link at the bottom of this page).

BSA Students: Please note that coursework undertaken for certificates may overlap with the Core curriculum, writing flags, the quantitative reasoning flag, and Honors coursework. No more than 3 hours MAXIMUM of major coursework may overlap with a transcript-recognized certificate. Overlap is PROHIBITED with the Language, Arts, and Culture requirements.

The Certificate for CNS majors is 18 hours comprised of several health-related themes and supplemental science courses. Students must complete a minimum of 9 hours (and may complete a maximum of 18 hours) of theme courses. For students completing fewer than 18 hours of theme courses please see the supplemental science courses at the bottom of this page. The themes are mix-and-match, you do not need to focus in one theme, though if you are able to secure enough courses to specialize in one theme you are welcome to do so. All coursework must be completed with a C- or better and at least 9 hours of the coursework must be completed in residence at UT Austin.

Please Note: These policies and procedures are for students seeking their degree under the 2014-2016 catalog ONLY. If you are pursuing your degree under a different catalog please refer to the link on the left for your specific policies and procedures. If you are unsure of what catalog you are under, please refer to our FAQ's.

* Indicates courses that do not appear in the 14-16 catalog, but have been approved to count toward the Pre-Health Professions Certificate.
