"And once the storm is over, you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won't be the same person who walked in. That's what this storm's all about." — Haruki Murakami
Dear Students,
This time of year is incredibly challenging. Final projects, papers, and presentations loom and can be overwhelming at times, or all the time in some cases. And it's not just you all who feel this way — I do, too! As I think about all the things I want to accomplish before the end of the semester, I find myself practicing more and more deep breathing every day (hello, wellness!), but sometimes it's not enough.
During your four years here, the skills you learn outside of the classroom are just as important as the knowledge you learn during class. Being able to prioritize, especially prioritizing your own health, is a habit that will serve you well for the rest of your life. As you work toward finishing the semester, please try to hone that skill. It matters to us that you take care of yourself.
Life will continue to provide storms, and there is no doubt they will be challenging. The storms also teach us and continue to push the limits on what we thought we were capable of. That's what the storm is all about.
Best,
Dr. Vanden Bout
Joke: Did you hear about the restaurant NASA is starting on the Moon? Great food, but no atmosphere.
