New Support in Health Pathways

New Support in Health Pathways

Dear Students,

"House," "ER" and "Grey's Anatomy" are among the gripping medical dramas that have helped teach us a career in medicine can be exciting, challenging and impactful. It's a shame we don't also have exciting dramas about, say, podiatry or occupational therapy. That's because podiatrists, occupational therapists and other allied health professionals do a lot of good in the world. It's worth appreciating how fulfilling these jobs can be.

For this reason, I'm pleased to announce that the Health Professions Office (HPO) is doing something to change that. No, they're not shooting a new drama about podiatry. They are beginning to advise students on four additional Health Profession pathways! The office is adding advising for students who may be interested in: Podiatry, Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA), Cardiovascular Perfusionist, and Orthotist and Prosthetist pathways.

In addition, HPO already provides advising and resources for pre-physician assistant, pre-pharmacy, pre-optometry, pre-veterinary, pre-physical therapy, pre-occupational therapy, pre-medical and pre-dental students. They also welcome students interested in other health professions not listed.

Keep an eye on the HPO website for more information (the new pathways are being integrated into the website with additional resources). And don't forget to sign up for their newsletter if you haven't already! You can also email HPO at hpo@austin.utexas.edu with any questions.

Best,
Dr. Drew
