Dear Students,
Today is MLK Day, and I hope you're enjoying the day off from classes. In this short break before the semester heats up, perhaps you are thinking about things like grades, awards, acceptances and academics. The legacy of Dr. King reminds us that perhaps the most important yardstick of our success is the impact we have on others.
So today I encourage you to reflect on what you can do to positively impact our community. If you're looking for ideas, the UT Division of Diversity and Community Engagement is compiling a list of events and volunteer opportunities that will be updated throughout the month of January.
If you're looking for something to do today, the MLK celebration march and rally begins at 9 a.m. with a short program at the MLK Statue. Afterward, participants will march to the south steps of the Capitol, then on to Huston-Tillotson University for a community festival with vendors and music. Participants are asked to bring canned or other non-perishable food items, which will be donated to the Central Texas Food Bank. Come on out!
Thanks for all you do to make CNS a diverse, supportive and welcoming community.
Best,
Dr. Drew
