Dear alumni and families:
Many years ago, Dean's Scholars admitted no more than 25 students per year. Today, DS and our younger honors programs in the College of Natural Sciences, Health Science Scholars and Polymathic Scholars, together admit up to 150 students annually. And yet it's never been more of an achievement to be admitted to CNS Honors.
For the second year in a row, applications to our programs have topped 3,000. Last year, CNS Honors made offers to 11% of applicants from 41 states and 18 countries. In terms of selectivity, this puts the three programs collectively somewhere between Dartmouth College and Cornell University.
Before the holiday break, we'll make our first round of fall 2020 offers to 75 high school students of inspirational promise. I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that reading CNS Honors applications fills me with hope. These are our future leaders, both in and beyond the sciences. So I can share some reassuring news: We're going to be in good hands.
