Dear Students,
After more than a year and a half of very few in-person activities, it's great to see the campus looking so alive. Most of our classes are back to meeting in-person. At class changes, Speedway is crowded with people. And, once again, bicycles and skateboards are zooming down the hill on 24th Street.
For many of us, this feels like a welcome return to normal life on campus. But for others, in-person life on campus is completely new, bringing both exciting opportunities and some challenges. Here are four quick tips for navigating in-person college life:
- Ask for academic help: If you're struggling in class, talk to your TA or professor, or visit one of our academic help centers, like the PCL STEM Study Center, the Calculus Lab, or the Sanger Learning Center.
- Seek other help you need, too: If you are struggling with issues outside of class, the Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) can provide short-term counseling for mental health and other personal issues. Visit our Student Support page to learn about other available resources.
- Get involved: Being back on campus offers opportunities to connect with campus activities, like doing research. To learn more, join the Senate of College Councils research symposium on October 30th from 2-5pm in the WCP ballroom. Faculty, staff and other researchers will be there to discuss their research and how you can get involved (RSVP here).
- Stay safe: Although Austin is continuing to move in the right direction with COVID-19, let's not let our guard down. Masks are still recommended indoors, including in classrooms and offices.
And speaking of safe, please, always look both ways when crossing 24th Street.
Best,
Dr. Drew
Joke: Here's one for the folks in Textiles and Apparel: Please don't talk to me about fashion—It just goes in one year and out the other.
