What created your interest in Biology?
I first became interested in Biology and Medicine when I took an Anatomy and Physiology class my junior year in high school. That class really inspired me to pursue a career in the medical field, and since biology is the basis of medicine, I decided to major in biology here at UT. For me, majoring in biology was a great choice.
What do you enjoy most about your studies or research?
I love how biology is related to the medical field. I have realized that each biology class, including the intro classes, is necessary for the understanding of the human body and diseases and so many other things relating to medicine. I think my favorite classes so far have been Vertebrate Physiology, which focuses on the nervous system, and BIO 226T, which is all about vaccines, diseases, and infections related to humans.
Why did you choose UT's School of Biological Sciences?
I chose UT for a variety of reasons, such as location, academic programs, quality of the soccer program, climate, etc. However, when I was applying to UT, I really liked biology and I wanted to continue exploring in the biological sciences. The UT biology program was a great fit and I have really enjoyed the classes and the professors that I have had so far.
What are your career goals?
I plan to go to Physician Assistant School after I graduate and in the future I hope to be a practicing Physician Assistant.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love playing soccer and I love the outdoors. I play soccer for the UT Women's soccer team, which takes up most of my spare time, but I love it and I have really enjoyed playing over these four years.
What fun activity would you recommend to an incoming UT student?
Explore Austin! Go to as many little restaurants and coffee shops as you can that are unique to Austin, like Hula Hut and Mozart's on Lake Austin. Also, if you like the outdoors the options are endless. You can go rock climbing or hiking in the greenbelt, walk up to Mount Bonnell, camp out on Lake Travis, go canoeing on Town Lake, or anything else Austin's hill country provides.
