The Pre-Health Professions Certificate provides majors outside of the College of Natural Sciences (CNS) access to the courses required to complete health professions prerequisites. Click here to download the complete certificate checklist for non-science majors.
Please Note: These policies and procedures are for students seeking their degree under the 2016-2018 catalog ONLY. If you are seeking your degree under a different catalog, please refer to the menu bar to the left for your specific policies and procedures. Students outside CNS must apply for the Certificate during or after completing the following qualifying courses with B- or better grades:
- CH 301 or CH302
- One from: SDS 302, M 408C, M 408K, M 408N, M 408R
An Application for admission is required. Once you have completed these courses with at least a B- or are currently taking these courses please apply for admission.
The application for Spring 2019 admission will be available August 1st.
Once admitted, the Certificate can be completed by finishing 18 hours from one of the following areas of health professions Lower Division coursework.
Although upper division courses are not required to earn the Pre-Health Professions Certificate, in some instances it is necessary to count upper division pre-health pathway coursework. For example, if your health profession does not require Physics, or only requires 4 hours of Physics, you may substitute upper-division Biology and/or Chemistry courses to fulfill the 18 hours of science required for Certificate completion.
Completing the Lower Division coursework in Biology & Chemistry for your desired pre-health pathway, will allow you to proceed with the Upper Division pre-health requirements:
Special Notes:
*A completed calculus-based physics sequence may substitute for the purposes of the certificate
** BIO 326M may substitute for BIO 326R
*** Course may not be required for all schools. Be sure to check with the Health Professions Office as well as the professional schools you plan to apply to.
