Thanks Day to Raise Awareness of Student Educational Funding

Thanks Day to Raise Awareness of Student Educational Funding
University of Texas at Austin students will say “thank you” to alumni, faculty, family, donors and the state for supporting their education at Thanks Day activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 10, 2010, on Gregory Plaza.

The purpose of Thanks Day is to educate students about how university is funded and about its current funding structure and needs.

The event was slated for early November because it marks the first quarter of the school year, which is approximately the same proportion of a student’s education that is funded by tuition and fees. The remaining three-fourths is funded by many other sources, including taxpayers through state general revenue, alumni, parents, research grants, and other sources.

Thanks Day events will include students signing a life-sized thank you card on Gregory Plaza as well as individual thank you cards that will be mailed to alumni, parents and friends after they make their annual gifts. Students will also participate in a video recording of thank you messages. Tiff’s Treats will be distributed with special napkins that illustrate university budget expenditures.

Thanks Day is sponsored by Student Government, Senate of College Councils, the Texas Exes Student Chapter, and Students Hooked on Texas.
