Texas Chautauqua: (Re)Making History

In the third Texas Chautauqua, professors Bonevac and Sadun debate the SBOE's new recommendations for K-12 social studies standards.Event: Philosophy professor Dan Bonevac and mathematics professor Lorenzo Sadun will debate whether the revised K-12 social studies standards the Texas State Board of Education has recommended are reasonable. Joy Alvarado, a member of Texas IP Fellows student leadership panel, will moderate.

The debate is free and open to the public.

Background: The Texas Chautauqua debate is sponsored by the Texas IP Fellows program and is the third in a series of Texas Chautauquas, named after the freewheeling educational roadshows popular a century ago. The first Texas Chautauqua, in spring 2009, centered on the SBOE’s debate over how evolution should be taught; the second, in fall 2009, concerned the influence of big-time college football in American universities.
