10 CNS Students Awarded National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowships
The National Science Foundation has announced that they will be awarding 28 prestigious Graduate Research Fellowships to University of Texas at Austin students, including seven College of Natural Science graduate students, two current undergraduates and a recent alumnus.
Gender Bias Common in STEM Classrooms
Male biology students tended to have 19 times more gender bias when nominating the smartest person in the class as opposed to female students, according to recent research done jointly by Sarah Eddy of the Texas Institute for Discovery Education in Science (TIDES) and Dan Grunspan of the University of Washington.
Textiles and Apparel Students Win Prestigious National Awards

A student majoring in textiles and apparel at The University of Texas at Austin last night was announced to have won a prestigious national scholarship from a leading international fashion industry group. Avani Patel's innovative design idea, which combines 3D printing and 3D modeling to make custom-fit leather shoes, is one of a handful of concepts from UT Austin textiles and apparel students to have won national awards in recent weeks.
Computer Science Undergrad Gives Back in Big Way
Nicholas Cobb, a second-year computer science student, has won national recognition repeatedly for his work with a charitable organization he started at the age of 12. Most recently, he traveled to New York for recognition at the 2015 Nickelodeon HALO Awards.
