Recent federal regulations on the labeling of added sugar are a necessary step in combating childhood obesity, writes Jaimie Davis, associate professor of nutritional sciences at the University of Texas at Austin, in the Austin American-Statesman.
Davis argues that because of the dramatic increase in added sugar over the past three decades, such guidelines are needed. Further she posits that the link between added sugar and things like childhood obesity and type II diabetes makes the issue of these guidelines even more pressing.
