Dear Students,
Spring is here! And, thankfully, the weather is back to spring (I was worried summer had already arrived). Everyone should be back into the groove of studying and working towards a strong finish to the semester. Keeping that in mind, I want to encourage everyone to capitalize on living in Austin. There were just a few bazillion people here for SXSW who would kill to move to Austin. If you run into any of them still hanging around, tell them we are full.
After that, head out and take advantage of this amazing place in which we live. Get outside. Play a round of Foot Golf. Find the latest greatest food truck. Visit the Graffiti Park. Go to Ladybird Lake. Go to the Wildflower Center. Spend the afternoon exploring Austin. No car? Take the bus. Or if you don't want to leave campus, I'm certain there are places you have not explored on the Forty Acres. Have you been to the Blanton? The Ransom Center? Check out this page of Landmarks on campus.
Of course, you should do all of this in the context of reserving time for academics. Maybe in your explorations you'll find your new favorite place to study.
Best, – Dr. Vanden Bout
