Resumes

Resumes

Dear Students,

We are now heading into the first full week of classes. As the semester is just beginning, it might seem odd to suggest that it’s time to start thinking about your future after graduation; but it is--especially for the juniors and seniors.

During my junior year I needed to make a resume for the first time.  Who would have thought I would ever need a resume before I graduated from college?  As it turned out, I did. Not only did I need one; but I needed it for an application for a summer position… and it was (of course) due the next day.  There I sat in my dorm room, trying to capture on a single page document the essence of my skills and experience.  The only “advice” I could find as I struggled to make the summer job I had washing dishes sound more professional was from the sadly generic resume template on Microsoft Word.

You on the other hand need not endure this experience on your own, as you have the CNS Student Division and the amazing staff at Career Services to help you.  For the next two weeks, they are hosting an array of events leading up to the Fall 2014 Career Fair.

The first event is tomorrow (9/8) from 5:30pm-6:45pm in NHB 1.720 and is on “Resume Basics”.  If you would like to attend please rsvp here.

The entire list of events can be found this link to the upcoming Career Services events.

I would encourage you to use this opportunity to prepare for your life after you leave the university.
