CNS Newsletter

Dear Students,

Last week I wrote about nominating faculty, staff, and TAs for awards. This week I’m writing about nominating yourself!  The 2015-2016 College of Natural Sciences Common Scholarship Application is now available.  The common application is used to award college-level scholarships as well as the Health Professions Scholarships (for pre-medical students) and Out-of-State Tuition Waivers.  Current CNS students can access the online application at https://www.utexas.edu/cns/scholap.

The application requires that students obtain at least one (1) faculty letter of recommendation.  Students may have up to two faculty letters submitted on their behalf.  Applications will not be considered complete until at least one letter of recommendation has been received.  Instructions on who can write letters of recommendation and how to submit them can be found on the application.

Please be aware that the application deadline has changed this year.  The deadline to submit the online application is April 1, 2015.  Letters of recommendation must be received no later than April 15, 2014.  Late and incomplete applications will not be considered. With spring break between now and the deadline, it will come sooner than you think.

If you have any questions about CNS scholarships, please contact Adrianne Chacon-Posey.

In addition, many CNS departments have other scholarships that are set are designated for their majors.  Be sure to ask your advising office how to apply for a departmental scholarship.

Best,

-Dr. Vanden Bout

P.S. The weekly newsletter link is at the top of the email.

P.P.S.  I have been under the weather lately.  I’m guessing that I am not alone in this regard.  So if you have a cold, get as much sleep as you can (not in class) and take care of yourselves.

P.P.P.S.  In honor of winter and the poetry unit from my children’s language arts class, I share with you the following haiku.

            Cold wind in the woods

Do not go into the cave
