Dear Students,
So often we think of leadership as leading a team toward an endpoint. A to B. However, more often than not, leadership is more about making sure to look around as we move toward our goal. How we arrive at that goal is just as important as getting there.
When we pay attention to how we go about our work, leadership looks different. For example, our goal as a college is to do what's best for students. But as we look around, we find systems and policies and processes that give advantages to some groups and leave others behind. That prompts asking some hard questions of ourselves.
Where is that true for you, too? Leadership requires both courage and curiosity, so ask yourself the hard questions. Where are the places and spaces I frequent that are not equally welcoming or accessible to different groups? What can I do to change things for the better? Then act.
