UTeach, the college’s groundbreaking math and science teacher preparation program, has been on a roll lately.
It was featured prominently in Newsweek magazine’s explanation for why The University of Texas at Austin was America’s hottest college for “saving America’s schools.”
The program is going national, through a partnership between the UTeach Institute and the National Math and Science Initiative. They are replicating the program at 13 universities nation-wide. And UTeach is already more than halfway toward its ultimate goal of building a $15 million endowment.
The Austin-based KLE Foundation has recently given UTeach a substantial push toward that endowment goal. The Foundation, which focuses its giving on underprivileged, at-risk students, is offering a 1-1 match (up to a total of $500,000) for new endowments established to benefit the UTeach program.
To encourage support from the university community, this offer, which will match endowment amounts between $25,000 and $100,000, is exclusively for University of Texas at Austin alumni and members of the College of Natural Sciences Foundation Advisory Council.
The funds raised will provide for UTeach activities that State of Texas funds are not allocated to support. Such activities currently include (but are not limited to) scholarship support, tuition stipends, intern support, student and teacher travel expenses, and mentor teacher support.
