Dozens of students gathered at the McCombs School of Business this week to pitch their innovations to investors at the Texas Venture Labs Investment Competition. College of Natural Sciences (CNS) graduate students were among the groups presenting their inventions.
An entrepreneurial CNS team that innovated developed ProteanSeq. The team says the machine holds the power to catalog proteins from complex biological samples at a greater rate and accuracy than any other technique currently on the market. Accurately detecting and quantifying proteins in bodily fluids is essential to the early diagnosis of disease, so ProteanSeq could be a crucial tool for hospitals and biomedical researchers in the pharmaceutical industry. The team behind ProteanSeq included chemistry graduate student Erik Hernandez (center) and cell and molecular biology graduate students Alexander Boulgakov (left) and Jagannath Swaminathan (right).
