Dear Students,
In her early 20s, Dr. Wanda Díaz-Merced was studying physics at the University of Puerto Rico when a prolonged illness caused permanent blindness, a seemingly career-ending turn of events. However, Dr. Díaz-Merced was hooked on physics and astronomy, so instead of giving up her passion, she began to think about "seeing" science in another way: through sound. It was through this intersection of persistence, passion, creativity, and science that Dr. Díaz-Merced gave the world a new burst of knowledge and lens for viewing the universe.
I invite you to get a taste of science in a new way through our very own TIDES Science Sprints. Science Sprints are one-day intensive events bringing together teams of CNS undergraduates to work on a meaningful science problem. Sprints are a great way to explore a STEM research area, build your résumé, and think creatively about science.
Science Sprints are also a great way to be introduced to The Inventors Program. This is a new opportunity for science and engineering undergraduate students who are interested in solving real world problems with the potential for commercialization.
