October 17th will be Family Day. This is a chance for families to come to UT to visit and see what campus life is all about.
While families of all students are welcome, this event is primarily attended by families of freshmen who are hoping to check in with their children and learn about their new lives away from home. I remember my freshman year and how excited my parents were to drive down for the weekend to see my dorm room, visit with my friends, and learn about life on campus.
So even if your family is not able to make it to Austin on the 17th, I would encourage you to reach out to them. Say thanks. Let them know you wouldn't be here without their support. And take the time to let them know what you are doing. I'm guessing they are dying to talk, and they would like to hear about your life on campus. This is true even for those of you who are not freshman.
And if your family can come down for the weekend, that's even better. We'd love to see them and let them know more about the College of Natural Sciences.
Best,
Dr. Vanden Bout
