Being Thankful

Being Thankful

Dear Students,

Some of you will get the chance to get home for Thanksgiving. Some of you might have headed home already! Others will stay in Austin. Wherever you are, take the time to do one thing. Sit down and think about something you are thankful for. Do it in a tangible way. Write it down. Share it with a friend. Putting your thanks into words will force you to reflect on your choice.

One of the things I'm thankful for is a shared commitment from the top down for valuing and supporting you, our students, as a community. A message from President Fenves last week indicated some reports have been made to the Campus Climate Response team about incidents where students felt targeted because of bias. As I wrote in my last email, respect is a critical part of being in this community. One way to show that respect is, if you see something that crosses the line, speak up. I am thankful that students don't let such incidents slide by, and I am thankful for the administration for its continued efforts to help support our community.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving,

Dr. Vanden Bout

P.S. Don't forget, we don't have classes this Wednesday!
