Come interact with physics faculty and students as the Department of Physics opens its doors.

Activities:

  • Poster Session, 2-4 pm, 4th floor (entrance level) lobby
  • Laboratory Tours 2-5 pm on floors 2, 3, 10, 12, 13, & 14 — leaving every half hour
  • Theory presentations 2-5 pm in RLM 9.222 — a new topic every half hour

Find out about the following topics in lab tours, which will run every half hour from 2-5:

  • Texas Petawatt Laser Lab, Tabletop particle acceleration and more!
  • Controlled atomic motion
  • Nano‐photonics and quantum materials
  • Laser driven plasma accelerator
  • Surface Dynamics
  • Nano materials
  • Quantum materials and computation
  • Nanoscale Electronics
  • Quark‐gluon plasma
  • Spin‐Based Electronics
  • Cool Atomic Microscope
  • Super conductivity and Magnetism
  • Mechanical Properties of Cells
  • Biofilms and Cell Membranes
  • Ocean Wave Dynamics

Theory presentations in 9.222:

  • 2:00 ‐ 2:30 : Matthew Klimek “Testing the standard model at large hadron collider”
  • 2:30 ‐ 3:00 : Michael Marder “Physics, Fracking, Fuel, and the Future"
  • 3:00 ‐ 3:30 : Austin Gleeson “Relativity: copacetic and right
  • 3:30 ‐ 4:00 : Sonia Paban “Quantum fluctuation and galaxies”
  • 4:00 ‐ 4:30 : Philip Morrison “ What do magnetic field lines really look like”
  • 4:30 ‐ 5:00 : Thomas Carroll “Neutrino physics: with and without the neutrinos”

You'll learn that the study of physics knows no bounds.
