Science Under the Stars — Gotta Catch ‘Em All: Real Life Pokémon
Thursday, September 08, 2016, 08:00pm - 09:00pm

E. Anne Chambers (Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior Graduate Program)

"Gotta Catch ‘Em All: Real Life Pokémon"

"Pokémon Go has encouraged everyone to go outside and catch Pokémon with their phones. Did you know that most Pokémon are based on real animals, many of which you can find right here in Texas? And you can use apps just like Pokémon Go to find them – while helping scientists with their research at the same time. Come out and learn the many ways in which citizen science has helped researchers around the world–and how you can get involved too!"

Science Under the Stars is a free, monthly public outreach lecture series founded and organized by graduate students in the Department of Integrative Biology at The University of Texas at Austin. Events are held at 8:00pm outdoors at Brackenridge Field Laboratory, 2907 Lake Austin Blvd, Austin, Texas 78703. In the case of inclement weather, lectures are held indoors.

Here’s the schedule for this month’s event:

  • 7:00 pm: Food and displays of local animals and plants found at Brackenridge Field Laboratory will be available.
  • 7:15 pm-7:45 pm: Guided tour of the field lab (wear sturdy shoes and bring water)!
  • 7:30 pm: Kid’s activities start! Meet with our children’s division for fun activities designed for all ages.
  • 8:00 pm: Settle in, because the talk begins now!
