The university is hosting a celebration for the Centennial of the National Parks Service to kick off National Park Week. The all-day event will be held on the South Mall Tuesday, May 3rd from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. The event is open to the public.

Starting at 11:30 a.m., you will find a variety of activities on the South Mall including a "Redwood Kinekt Experience," a virtual experience that allows guests to turn into a Redwood Tree in real time through interactive motion sensor technology. Select visitors will be able to project their personal redwood to the top of the UT tower starting at dusk, rising to the same height as the tallest redwood, a soaring 307 feet above Austin. Guests can also engage with other programs, including interactive learning stations to educate visitors about the centennial movement and more.

The kickoff event at 8:35 p.m. will feature Andy Roddick, former No. 1 professional tennis player in the world.

The event is a part of the Find Your Park/Encuntra Tu Parque movement, inspiring a new generation to discover the breadth of the National Park Service, and in celebration of the National Park Service’s upcoming 100th anniversary.

This event is free and open to the public; no RSVP required.
