Science Study Break: Doctor Who
Tuesday, March 04, 2014, 06:00pm - 07:00pm

The Life Science Library presents a Science Study Break:

"Doctor Who"

Event: Science Study Break features Dr. Vernita Gordon (Physics) and Dr. Martin Kevorkian (English) on Doctor Who. The event is free and open to the public.

When: 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 4.

Where: Student Activity Center Auditorium (SAC 1.402) at The University of Texas at Austin.

Background: The University of Texas Libraries next installment of Science Study Break will most definitely be bigger on the inside as it seeks to make sense of BBC mainstay Doctor Who.

Dr. Vernita Gordon of the Department of Physics and Dr. Martin Kevorkian of the Department of English will need the space to contain their combined perspectives on the Time Lord’s exploits across the space and time.

Gordon will examine the 50-year-old sci-fi program from her background in biological physics, as well as an early adoration of space travel. Kevorkian has a keen interest in the nexus between technology and culture, and also happens to have a degree in mechanical engineering.

Free pizza (while it lasts) for program attendees.

Pop culture and the academy collide as Science Study Break features relevant faculty and experts from the University of Texas at Austin discussing the reality and fantasy portrayed as fact in science-themed television and movies. Science Study Break is hosted by the University of Texas Libraries and supported by the University Federal Credit Union.

Location: SAC 1.402
