Roy D Mayfield
Research Professor
Department of Neuroscience, Waggoner Center for Alcohol and Addiction Research-
The goal of Dr. Mayfield's research is to identify molecular and cellular mechanisms in the central nervous system that may be involved in the psychoactive and addictive properties of drugs of abuse. His work is focused on the identification of drug-induced changes in gene and protein expression on a genomic and proteomic scales. This work has led to the discovery of a number of new drug targets and potential biomarkers of drug abuse. Recently, his team has been particularly interested in detailed gene structure and regulatory mechanisms that may lead to drug discovery opportunities.
